A group of young people, who are part of a pilot program for Australia's first Pluriversity in the Blue Mountains, are currently learning event management skills as they prepare for Blackheath's Night of Nights - a gala fundraising event on Saturday, April 27, at Blackheath Golf & Community Club.
The show will feature an exciting line-up of local talent: internationally renowned violinist Asmira Woodward-Page who has recently returned to Australia from New York; lyric soprano Taryn Shroj, an alumni of Pacific Opera and co-founder of Blue Opera; accomplished tenor Rowen Fox, also an accomplished composer and conductor; gifted folk-blues guitarist Martin Foote; and inspiring violinist and teacher Marion Walker, performing with some of her students.
This six-month pilot is being funded by The Big Fix Inc., Blue Mountains City Council, Bendigo Bank and Sydney Water and one of the outcomes is the development of a collaborative social enterprise by the young people which will be launched at the event.
Over the last few months they've learnt skills in permaculture and business design; graphic design, IT and marketing; natural dyeing and hands-on gardening; writing and editing; grant writing; and now event management and fundraising.
Tickets for the night available from Richardson & Wrench Blackheath or from The Big Fix on 0407 437 553 or email lis@thebigfix.org.
