A team of breast cancer survivors, including women from the Blue Mountains, won two bronze medals at the Australian National Championships for the sport of Dragon Boating.
Known as Dragons Abreast Penrith, the group travelled to Canberra to take part in the event held over the Easter long weekend.
The 14-member squad includes members from Blackheath, Hazelbrook, Woodford, Faulconbridge, Winmalee, Blaxland as well as the Penrith area. They train and paddle on the Nepean River and at their home ground at the Sydney International Regatta Centre in Penrith.
They won the bronze medal on Easter Sunday for the 500 metre race and a second bronze on Easter Monday for the 200 metre race.
"No need to say that the celebrations were much enjoyed by all the team," said spokeswoman Janette Fry. "But the biggest celebration of all is the fact that we are still here, we are already winners as we are survivors and have beaten the disease."
