Artist Rowen Matthew's exhibition Vertical Land is now showing at Day Gallery in Blackheath. It is his second held at the gallery after a successful first sell-out show.
The paintings offer a contemporary vision of the Grose Valley escarpment, full of energy and colour.
"We have the old canyons of the Blue Mountains and the gorges of the Northern Tablelands because they're too wild to tame," said Matthews.
"They haven't been farmed or mined or developed. They stand bold and undefeated, and if we let ourselves sit with them we can hear their history, and we can see it, and I think we can really feel it."
Vertical Land is at Day Gallery, 27-29 Govetts Leap Road until June 23. Open weekends 10am-5pm or by appointment. Call Vince Day on 0404 930 120.
