Kirinari was created in 1988 by a group of parents that wanted their special needs children to live within the community, rather than in an aged care facility, which was their only other option at the time.
Today Kirinari provides support services to anyone that needs assistance to live within the community.
There is Supported Independent Living (SIL) where people are assisted to live in their own home by themselves, as well as Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) which is purpose-built or adapted to meet a person's individual requirements.
Kirinari also has an apartment building in Blackheath which enables people with more complex support needs to live in a more independent way.
They also offer Short Term Accommodation - or respite care - in Blackheath that caters to families wanting to have a holiday with their loved ones who may need support.

It is also a way in which young adults can prepare for moving into their own home as they learn daily living skills. There's also The Hive in Katoomba which offers community access, groups, courses and a "hangout space".
Regional manager James Kilby said Kirinari employed more than 550 people in NSW.
"The Blue Mountains branch is made up of a team of people that all have a genuine affection and care for their customers," Mr Kilby said. He said the arrival of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) had radically changed the disability sector.
"The Blue Mountains branch of Kirinari has grown and now supports people via accommodation, community access, day support and home care," he said.
"People in the community may have seen that we recruit much more than we used to. New customers need support workers and we are only ever able to take on new customers once we have the right people in place to support them.
"The NDIS has brought challenges, but the advantages to our customers is that they have so much more choice in how they live their lives."
- Kirinari is recruiting disability support workers for Blackheath, Katoomba and Wentworth Falls. For more information go to their website.
