While it was a snowy weekend in the Upper Mountains, in Woodford a house was destroyed by fire on Saturday.
The fire was detected about 8pm in the home on the Great Western Highway and houses either side also sustained minor damage due to the heat, said Blue Mountains Police Detective Inspector Scott McAlpine.
"At this stage we do not consider the fire suspicious and early indications are that the fire could have started from embers from a fireplace," he said. Investigations are continuing.
Glenbrook fire
About 30 metres of grass was burnt by the rail corridor at Bruce Rd in Glenbrook before firefighters contained the blaze on August 9. The fire started about 4pm, and police were contacted following concerns the fire may have been deliberately lit.
Police are interested in speaking to three males seen on CCTV in the area. Anyone who knows the identity of this group is urged to contact Springwood Police Station, quoting E72655708.
Carpark accident
A 70-year-old Hazelbrook woman was hit by a car while walking through a carpark in Springwood on August 6, hitting her head on the ground and grazing her face.
She was taken to Nepean Hospital for examination and has been released. The driver, a Valley Heights man, aged 22, underwent mandatory breath testing, returning a negative result.
Library ban
A group of young people were reported to police for congregating outside Katoomba Library and becoming aggressive toward staff when asked to leave, at about 1pm on August 2.
The group had left the area before police arrived with one teenager returning while police were on site.
"He was spoken to and advised that the library would be issuing a banning notice to him and the group. The 15-year-old Katoomba male was issued with a move on notice," Det Insp McAlpine said.
Carpark assault
A woman, 53, was seen reversing into a car parked on Macquarie Rd in Springwood before parking in the IGA carpark on August 7.
Things turned ugly when the owner of the damaged vehicle, a 60-year-old Springwood woman, attempted to talk to the driver. "The driver became aggressive, yelling abuse before hitting the victim across the face," said Det Insp McAlpine.
Police were called and the driver resisted arrest, yelling and kicking. She was charged with common assault, resisting an officer in the execution of duty and not giving her details to another driver, and faces Katoomba Local Court on September 23.
