Blue Eco Homes and the Blue Mountains Regional Business Chamber have worked alongside one another for more than 10 years. The two organisations joined together last month to host an After 5 Networking event at the Blue Eco Homes' demonstration, Sapphire Passive House.
Joe and Merylese Mercieca of Blue Eco Homes have worked hard to design a home that is extraordinarily energy-efficient while also being bushfire-safe and providing a safe and healthy place to live. In this way, Blue Eco Homes are not only taking climate initiatives seriously, but also contributing significantly to the Blue Mountains economy by providing jobs for more than 100 employees, contractors and product suppliers.
Blue Eco Homes has grown from simple beginnings to winning many industry awards, including the Harry Hammon award in 2011 and 2014 at the annual chamber's business awards.
The awards are just one of the events that Blue Mountains Regional Business Chamber runs throughout the year to celebrate the business community and provide valuable networking and education opportunities.
A busy calendar of events between now and Christmas kicks off with a special Law in Business panel, held at The Carrington Hotel in Katoomba on Thursday, October 31. Hosted by a panel of legal experts, this will be a lively conversation about a range of issues, where business owners are welcome to pose any question they may have about contracts, the sale or purchase of businesses, commercial leases and consumer law.
November welcomes another of the chamber's regular training events, with Social Media 101 for Small Business held at Springwood Sports Club on Thursday, November 14. This event is proudly supported by the Western Sydney Business Centre.
And have you ever wondered what an ombudsman does? An independent watchdog who holds government departments accountable, an ombudsman can be an incredibly useful resource, helping business people to access their rights and receive expert advice. The chamber will be welcoming Richard Mills, retired ombudsman, to talk to local business at a special event on Thursday, November 28 in the Lower Mountains.
Of course, business does not always have to be serious, and the Christmas Party on Thursday, December 5 will be a fun opportunity to meet other business folk, have a drink, and toast the end of a busy year. Keep an eye on the chamber website www.bmchamber.org.au for more details.
All chamber events are open to both members and non-members (with concessional rates for members).
