A truck accident earlier this month on Governors Drive at Lapstone, has one councillor calling for safety improvements to the road.
Ward 4 Liberal councillor Brendan Christie says the road is dangerous.
On October 12 in wet conditions, a truck came off Governors Drive into the front yard of a home, rolling backwards and blocking the entire road.
While waiting for emergency services to arrive, residents directed traffic.
"Without them standing there, there could have been another accident. People like to speed in Lapstone. I can just imagine them careering into the truck," Cr Christie said.
The truck crashed about 100m from a notorious "dip in the road".
"At the dip if you go over it at 60 that feels like a rollercoaster. People cross the line. At 80km/hr they're on the other side of the road. It's not a safe stretch of road," Cr Christie said.
He intends to raise the issue at this month's council meeting, requesting RMS investigate the incident and that council and the RMS provide additional signage about trucks using the road. He says there must be height and weight limits imposed on trucks using the road.
"We need the RMS to investigate why trucks are now using Governors Drive as a rat run and how we can put a stop to this so that our residents and our roads are safe. I've contacted Stuart Ayres' office on this issue asking for the state government to help us," Cr Christie said.
"We don't want it to become another Old Bathurst Road," he said, referring to the number of large trucks that use that road and the potential for a serious accident.
A council spokeswoman said: "The incident related to a heavy vehicle turning from the M4, a state government road, onto Governors Drive. There is currently no signage on the M4 advising heavy vehicles not to use this road, due to its narrow lane widths, sharp bends and grades. Signage for heavy vehicles on Governors Drive would not stop this type of incident from occurring."
