Travel company Expedia delved into their inventory and found some of the world's most haunted hotels. From castles to resorts, you might not expect these properties to be teeming with ghosts and spirits.

Paranormal history: With a history dating back five centuries, this York hotel is swarming with a number of spirits, both in the public areas and landlord's headquarters. One of the otherworld regulars is a workman in a bowler hat who fidgets and fusses, giving the impression he is waiting for someone.

Another frequently spotted ghost is a young woman in a long white dress, who stands against the bar in the back room gazing into the fireplace. But if those two apparitions aren't quite terrifying enough, then gear up for the fright of your life. Numerous guests have also reported seeing two detached legs strutting around the property-without any sign of a body in sight!

Paranormal History: Q Station in Sydney might boast a beautiful location and wonderful views, but, as a former quarantine station, it has a very dark history. Built in 1832 to quarantine early immigrants afflicted by disease, the station was a place of horror for many and is said to be one of Australia's most haunted places. Close to 600 inhabitants died there from scarlet fever, smallpox, typhoid, cholera or Spanish influenza.
