The festive season has arrived in Penrith, with a very special event, The Family Christmas Concert, co-presented by Penrith Symphony Orchestra and the Penrith City Choir on Sunday, December 1.
In an exciting and varied program, there's something for everyone, with special guests, carols, popular favourites, and a performance of Tchaikovsky's Christmas classic, The Nutcracker, complete with ballet dancers. It's even rumoured there may be a special guest from the North Pole.
Penrith City Choir, supported by Warrimoo chorale, Academy Singers and Penrith City Youth and Children's Choir, will join PSO on stage.
This four choir 'super-chorus' is led by Lucy McAlary, and will present all your favourite carols, culminating with a performance of the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's Messiah.
Penrith Youth Orchestra will also perform a selection of items to celebrate their exciting year and the holiday season.
In an exciting first, the musicians are thrilled to welcome dancers from Glenbrook Ballet Theatre, for a performance of The Nutcracker, choreographed by Yasmin Savah.
The excitement continues with local singer/songwriter, Brittanie Shipway, returning as a special guest artist for this concert. A graduate of NIDA, Shipway is a professional performer specialising in musical theatre and cabaret. She has appeared in numerous musicals for the Blue Mountains Musical Society and as Eponine in Les Miserables at the Riverside Theatre.
PSO artistic director Paul Terracini conducts this concert, which will begin at 3pm on December 1 at the Joan in Penrith. Book at the box office, at www.thejoan.com.au or 4723 7600.
