Blue Mountains mayor Mark Greenhill will bring a mayoral minute to the January council meeting that calls on staff to bring forward a proposal to celebrate the bravery and community service of those who defended the Blue Mountains during the current bushfire emergency.
"My minute asks staff to bring forward options to honour those who have defended us. The wonderful people who have put their own bodies on the line for community, day after day, night after night in the most trying circumstances," said the mayor.
"Whether it is a parade or a major community event of some other description, I want it to involve the whole community and to be a wonderful, cherished memory for those we honour.
"The event will need to be both appropriate and reflect our Blue Mountains spirit. We live in this beautiful place and are blessed with an exceptional community.
"This will be an important moment for us all. We owe these fantastic people so much and this is the least we can do."
The first council meeting of 2020 is due to be held on January 28.
