A 54-year-old man from Katoomba's Darley Street was struck on the head with an axe in the early hours of New Years Day by two young women.
The man was woken by loud banging at his front door about 5am on January 1. He opened his door slightly to see who was making the noise and was confronted by a 23-year-old Cowra woman and a 24-year-old woman from Wentworth Falls.
"The 24 year old struck the door several times with a small axe, striking the victim to the side of the head as he was attempting to close the door," police said. The same female threw a large pot through a window.
Both offenders were arrested. The 24 year old was charged with 'specially aggravated break and enter with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm' and armed with intent commit indictable offence and destroy or damage property. The Cowra woman also faces charges of specially aggravated break and enter with intent and armed with intent to commit an indictable offence. Both were granted conditional bail to appear at Katoomba Court on February 3.
