Live gigs for musicians are non-existent. It's frustrating for local musicians who are at home practising their craft and learning new songs that no-one is hearing.
For the past month, Radio Blue Mountains has been asking local musicians and performers to send their songs to Richard 'The Duck' Keegan, who will feature a three hour celebration of Mountains Music from 11am on Monday, June 8.
"We have some great professional musicians in the Mountains," said Keegan. "I see the June long weekend as a way to feature the lesser known performers who have recorded their songs but are not well known outside the local pubs and clubs."
With the concept of organising a small BBQ lunch with a few friends and family, and having the radio playing in the background, Radio Blue Mountains is providing the thrill of hearing their music across the airwaves for the first time. It's also an opportunity for local business to hear some of the musicians they might want to hire for live music when the restrictions are lifted.
Radio Blue Mountains 89.1 is a volunteer community radio station serving the Blue Mountains since 1993. It can be found on 89.1 FM, streaming on the internet or on Facebook.
Richard 'The Duck' Keegan can be heard from 11am every Monday playing the best of Australian music.
