Maintaining and building Australia's business ties with Asia needs more care and attention, a group of corporate chiefs says.
Major corporations and business groups will soon launch the results of a two-year study into the challenges of engaging with Asia as the region seeks to deal with COVID-19.
Asialink Business, in partnership with the Commonwealth Bank, the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and the Sid and Fiona Myer Family Foundation will launch the report on August 11.
The report - Winning in Asia: Creating long-term value - will examine the impact of COVID-19 and how Australian corporates can pursue new business and investment opportunities in Asia to generate long-term growth.
It is aimed at countering some perceptions of Asia being a risky place to do business.
Wesfarmers non-executive director and CEDA national chair Diane Smith-Gander said engagement with Asia had never been more important.
"In seeking to chart a course for COVID-19 recovery, the findings and recommendations of this work will come at a most crucial time for the Australian economy," she said.
"Maintaining our current business ties will not be easy and needs great care and attention.
"This research will prove an invaluable resource for those companies planning to keep doing or start doing business in Asia."
Among those contributing to the study were Australia Post boss Christine Holgate, former top diplomat and University of Queensland chancellor Peter Varghese and BHP Billiton's Martin Commons.
