Three Blue Mountains riders will put their need for speed to the test at the Downhill Mountain Biking State Titles in Wollongong on August 16.
Eli Schroeder, 10; Bryn Couzin, 11, and his dad Nathan Couzin, will tear down the track at Greenvalleys Mountain Bike Park in less than four minutes.
Mountain biking has seen the father and son travel to Thredbo to compete, and to New Zealand in February for the Crankworx Rotorua competition before everything shutdown for coronavirus.
Bryn said he was looking forward to riding the course in Wollongong.
"There will be lots of tree roots and lots of little drops but it doesn't look too bad. There will be heaps of corners and some steep sections," the Hazelbrook rider said.
"I'm nervous, excited and happy. I'm nervous 'cause I haven't done a race in ages, but excited 'cause I haven't done a race in ages 'cause of COVID."
All three are longtime BMX riders, Bryn ranked eighth in U10 boys nationally, Eli seventh in U9 boys. Nathan competes in masters.
This will be Eli's first downhill mountain biking competition.
He took up mountain biking because his dad, Ian, also rides and it was a sport they could enjoy together.
Eli, from Winmalee, likes to ride Knapsack, Glenbrook and Lawson trails, and at the Ourimbah Mountain Bike Park on the Central Coast.
