Notices have gone up in post offices explaining the changes, which will apply until June 30 next year (subject to review).
The deliveries will be on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday in one week, then Tuesday and Thursday the following week.
The notice said the temporary change is in response to increasing parcel volumes as customers move to online buying and home delivery during the pandemic.
The notice advises the changes, from August 17, will apply to households in postcodes from 2745 (Glenmore Park, Luddenham, Mulgoa) right up to the top of the Mountains at postcode 2785 (Blackheath, Megalong).
The Australia Post website said the changes are being progressively introduced across metropolitan regions from this month. Regional and remote areas will be unaffected.
Australia Post has also suspended its priority letters service. But express post items, parcels and post office box mail will continue to be delivered every business day.
