Kevin Walters is the man to lead the Brisbane Broncos back from oblivion for one simple reason - he's the perfect fit to repair everything that's gone wrong up there.
The club is fractured and they need a leader with Broncos DNA who can unite the playing group, the boardroom, the Old Boys, and the fans.
One of Kevvie's biggest strengths is his personality and ability to bring people together. But the telling thing with him is he has already been a big part of the club and understands its history and what it means to be a Bronco.
In the dark place the club is in at the moment, it's just so important to re-establish that DNA and he'll be able to do that.
He's a great man-manager who has coached under Craig Bellamy and Wayne Bennett and he's had his own squad in State of Origin.
Obviously, he is going to need the right support group around him in terms of coaches but there are plenty of quality assistants around who have been in good systems.
Kevvie is just the right fit at the right time.
My understanding of how it all imploded in Brisbane, and ultimately led to Anthony Seibold and the club parting, is everyone was confused with what he was trying to do.
The players lacked any real understanding of the coaching path he was taking them down and it was all too much for them.
What Kevvie will do is break it all down for them, keep it nice and simple and get the players back to actually enjoying their footy, something they all seemed to have lost under Seibold.
There is a real balance between working really hard but at the same time, making sure players are enjoying it and Kevvie is the sort of bloke who has the knack of being able to find that.
He's always had a desire to be a top grade coach and he's had a great grounding for it given who he has worked under along with the added experience of Origin.
There is going to be a heap of pressure there. It's a high profile organisation, a really big club with a lot of expectations there and you need a big personality to handle it and that's what Kevvie is.
The one thing he will have straight away is the respect of everyone because his man-management skills will hold him in good stead in that regard.
Probably Kevvie's big advantage over Seibold is he will have widespread support from day one.
I've got no doubt the job was always bigger than what Seibold envisaged when he took over from Bennett.
Wayne wanted to see out the final year of his contract and there would have been resentment there, from certain players, when he wasn't allowed to do that.
From day one, there also seemed to be resentment there from the club's Old Boys who wanted Kevvie to get the job after Wayne.
So, it was a tough gig for Seibold on a lot of fronts and when things started to unravel, there was no stopping it.
I really feel for him because I've got no doubts at all that he is a good coach.
It just didn't work for him up there but I don't think he will be lost to the game.
I'm sure he is looking forward to taking a break before, eventually, looking for an opportunity elsewhere.
Round 16 predictions
EELS v RABBITOHS
Souths haven't beaten a top-four side yet so here is their chance off the back of a first-class win over Manly. But the Eels can make a real statement here as well about their credentials if they can get the job done. Eels in a tight one.
DRAGONS v TITANS
I like the Dragons in this one. It's an important game for interim coach Dean Young. If the players want him in charge next season, this is a game they need to win.
The Titans were disappointing last week so will need to find something better to cause an upset.
ROOSTERS v BRONCOS
It would take a brave man to tip the Broncos here even though they showed more fight against the Dragons last week. The Roosters, with Boyd Cordner back, will just have too much class.
WARRIORS v KNIGHTS
I'm leaning towards the Knights with the brilliance of Kalyn Ponga and Mitchell Pearce to just get them home against a Warriors side who have really dug in and done themselves and the club proud.
SHARKS v COWBOYS
The Cowboys have been one of the real disappointments for mine this season and you just can't tip them here.
Valentine Holmes is back but no Jason Taumalolo and the Sharks will have too many points in them, with Shaun Johnson running the show.
PANTHERS v TIGERS
The Panthers to make it 11 straight and I reckon Nathan Cleary will lead them to a big win over a Tigers outfit that's playing with very little confidence.
STORM v MANLY
Manly's a club with plenty of pride who will respond positively to last weekend's really poor showing against Souths but with Cameron Smith and Cameron Munster both back for the Storm, they will get the job done.
RAIDERS v BULLDOGS
A 6.30pm game on a cold Sunday night in Canberra won't do a lot for the Bulldogs' confidence in trying to cause an upset here.
For mine, the Raiders are finding their mojo and are doing it without Josh Hodgson, which is bringing out the best in plenty of other players. I can see them racking up a big score in this one.
