Katoomba singer and Triple J Hottest 100 featured artist Mataya has released her second single, You.
Mataya's silky vocals infused with jazz and R&B overtones make for a fresh contemporary sound.
Growing up in a musical family, Mataya has been performing on stage with her father since she was 10. A multi-instrumentalist, mainly known for her vocal abilities, Mataya chooses to demonstrate her other talents as a keyboard player and violinist when recording.
You showcases her well-recognised vocal sound intertwined with subtle yet complex vocal harmonies, paying tribute to her music education and background in jazz studies.
Production by A2 aka The Brown Wunda, and executive production by gold record holder PON CHO, brings this old school sound into the 21st century.
Having collaborated with some of Australia's biggest acts, Mataya has appeared twice as a feature artist in the top 10 of Triple J's Hottest 100, singing with fellow Mountains' musicians, including Hermitude's hit single The Buzz and Thundamentals classic Sally. Keeping herself busy, Mataya is also a member of the upcoming electrifying collective, Haiku Hands.
From R&B/soul and jazz, to hip-hop and electronic dance bangers, there is nothing this multi-dimensional musician can't do.
However, the real magic is in her solo work. Honest and authentic, this music isn't trying to be anything other than raw.
