Regional Victoria will host a major road cycling event that has left Europe only three times.
The UCI Gran Fondo World Championships will be held across three days in September, 2025, with the location to be determined.
But Cycling Australia and the state government have locked the event in for a regional part of the state.
The championships are the culmination of the UCI Gran Fondo World Series and are expected to attract more than 3,200 international and interstate participants and crew to regional Victoria.
There were 27 qualifying events worldwide in 2019.
As the host of the 2025 world championships, regional Victoria's tourism will be showcased to 60,000 participants.
Cycling Australia chief executive Steve Drake said he looked forward to the event coming to Victoria.
"The UCI Gran Fondo World Championships provide an incredible opportunity for cyclists of all ages to compete for a chance at the World Champion rainbow jersey," he said.
Victorian Tourism, Sport and Major Events Minister Martin Pakula welcomed the confirmation.
"Victoria knows how to stage global sporting events better than anyone and it's fantastic that these championships are headed here in 2025," he said.
