His days of running a quick single may be over but Peter McSeveny is still donning the whites for Faulconbridge Cricket Club.
And these days the 70-year-old is joined in the team by his son-in-law, Michael Emmanuel, and grandson, Lachlan, 15.
McSeveny believes it's the only grandpa-grandson combination in the Blue Mountains competition.
He has been playing the game for more than 50 years. A shoulder injury stopped his bowling but he's flexible enough to keep wicket - with the bonus that "you don't have to run".
"The doctor said I'll need a knee replacement but I've been putting it off."
McSeveny said when Lachlan was born he was determined to one day play in the same team with him.
It paid off in Lachlan's first season when grandpa took two catches to give the young player his first two wickets.
As a concession to his advanced years, the club applied for permission for McSeveny to have a runner when batting, though he does as much on his own before calling for assistance.
The former principal of Springwood High School, who often finds himself playing against former students, said he hasn't decided when he might retire from the sport.
"Every game I need two days to recover ... but it's lovely to be able to play with my grandson and son-in-law. I was thinking this was the last [season] but I'm enjoying it and surviving it reasonably well."
