The school community at St Canice's in Katoomba rallied together recently to celebrate new positive behaviour strategies at the school.
Teacher Angela Wedesweiler said the launch of their new Positive Behaviour Support for Learning program (PBS4L) on June 4 was well received by the 106 students at the school.
The day started with a smoking ceremony with Uncle Lex Dadd.
"Parents, teachers and students walked through the smoke to brush away any worries," Ms Wedesweiler said.
Mountains author Jodie McLeod read from her book "Lilah the Lyrebird" - celebrating the school's mascot of the lyrebird.
"The children were engrossed in her descriptions and explanations of how the story came about.
"Lunch was a BBQ prepared and shared with parents. Throughout the day we had activities where groups of K-6 children either played traditional Aboriginal games, created artworks of lyrebirds or went on a treasure hunt throughout the school."
A liturgy was held reminding the students of three pillars of the school through prayer to love selflessly, live responsibly and learn purposely.
"What's next?" she told the Gazette. "We will continue with the positive behaviour strategies in school, we continue to reward students."
"It was such a fun day, everyone was happy throughout the day and many comments were made about how it is so lovely to be in a school with such an amazing community feel," Ms Wedesweiler said.
