Australia's women's football team dominated its Tokyo Olympic Games opener - defeating New Zealand 2-1 at Tokyo Stadium.
The scoreline doesn't do the Matildas' justice as the Sam Kerr-led attack caused the Kiwi defence all sorts of problems in the first half.
A 2-1 win over the Football Ferns leaves likely needed just a draw from their remaining two games against USA and Sweden to progress to the second round.
The Olympic tournament started in spectacular fashion when Sweden stunned the United States at the Olympics with a 3-0 victory.
The Americans, ranked No. 1 in the world and the favourites to win gold in Tokyo, were riding a 44-match unbeaten streak heading into Wednesday's match.
The United States next face New Zealand while Sweden meet Australia on Saturday.

Meanwhile Australia is ready to 'shock the world' at the Olympic Games men's football tournament, says coach Graham Arnold.
The Olyroos open their campaign against Argentina in Sapporo on Thursday, with matches against Egypt and Spain to come in Group C.
"I expect these boys to do something special," Olyroos coach Arnold told reporters on Tuesday as the Olyroos return to the Olympics for the first time since 2008.
"They're ready to shock the world and put in some great performances for the country of Australia."
