A special Christmas lunch is set to bring seasonal cheer to those in need after a trying year.
Volunteers from the Central Mountains Christmas Lunch fund have organised to host a free community morning tea and lunch on Christmas Day at Kihilla House, Queens Road, Lawson.
Federal member for Macquarie Susan Templeman was full of praise for the lunch. She said: "This wonderful event is run by volunteers particularly for people who are facing financial hardship or feeling socially isolated.
"It's taken place at Blaxland and Lawson over the past four years, and this year event coordinator Chris Kelly is estimating more than 100 people will attend.
"It's an opportunity for people to enjoy good food and company with no cost.
"After such a challenging year for so many people, it's really heartening to see the community pull together to support each other in this way."
Central Village Church is assisting with the staging of the event. Senior Minister, Rev. Tom Melbourne said: "As one of the local church ministers, and as the chairman of Kihilla, I love that this Christmas lunch is able to run once again.
"It's such a wonderful thing to know that this will bring happiness and companionship to a wide group of locals."
Attendees should arrive at 10.30am on Christmas Day for morning tea, with lunch to follow.
Organisers are seeking donations of cash, food, or gifts for the event. Anyone interested in making a donation can contact Chris Kelly at kelly_tmor@hotmail.com.
