Well-known community member Noel Pope from Lawson Post Office has helped kick-start this year's Belong Blue Mountains Christmas charity drive, raising $500 for the cause.
He did so by wearing a dress to work to encourage smiles and the generosity of locals.
"I'm always keen to have a laugh and get behind a good cause," Mr Pope said.
"The local community is always so generous."
This year's Belong Blue Mountains appeal aims to collect donations so it can provide hampers and gifts to those needing a little extra to full their Christmas tables and fill stockings.
Giving trees are located at the Katoomba, Mid Mountains (Lawson) and Lower Mountains (Blaxland) Neighbourhood Centres. People can donate festive food items and gifts.
Food items must be non-perishable and in-date. Gifts for children and adults are welcome, but must be new and unwrapped ... the neighbourhood centre elves will take care of the wrapping.
Foilk are also needed to volunteer for the hamper packing and delivery. Monetary donations are also welcomed and can be made via belongbm.org.au.
If you, or someone you know, could use a little extra support this Christmas, you can request a hamper by calling Belong Blue Mountains on 4759 2592 between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday, or visit belongbm.org.au/christmas any time before December 10.
