Robbery and beating in Katoomba
Between 10 and 11pm on Saturday January 15, a 21-year-old Blackheath man was the victim of a robbery and assault whilst walking along Cascade Street in Katoomba. He was hit with a bottle from behind, causing him to fall to the ground. Police say a number of males surrounded the victim, one allegedly holding a machete.
During the assault the victim had a number of personal items stolen, including a backpack, wallet and mobile phone. As soon as he was able to break free he sought assistance from nearby residents.
Police are investigating the robbery and assault and ask if any person was in the area at the time and noticed a large group (approximately ten males) , all wearing black clothing, or if they have CCTV / dashcam or personal footage of the assault to contact Springwood Police or Crimestoppers.
Missing man
Police are appealing for public assistance to locate a man missing from the Mountains.
Samuel Segal, 29, was reported missing to police on January 23. He was seen on CCTV footage in Glenbrook on Saturday January 15.
Police and family hold concerns for his welfare. Following investigations, his vehicle - a grey 2021 Toyota Hilux utility- registration EQR26X - was located in the Glenbrook National Park on January 25. Inquiries suggest it has been parked there since January 15.
He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, between 170cm and 180cm tall, of slim build with brown hair and brown eyes. He has distinctive tattoos of spider webs on his elbows/knees, a mermaid on his right forearm, a skull on his right wrist and a dragon on his left forearm.

Damage to train
About 1.45am on Saturday January 22, police received reports two men were damaging the inside of a carriage on a train between Springwood and Katoomba. Police boarded the train at Wentworth Falls and spoke to an 18-year-old from Dundas Valley and a 25-year-old from Woodford. Police found a number of seats had been damaged and thrown around the carriage. CCTV showed the damage occurring, which resulted in the pair's arrest. They have been charged with maliciously destroying or damaging property.
Blackheath collision
Around 11am on December 31, on the Great Western Highway, Blackheath, a grey Holden Commodore sedan was involved in a crash with a white Nissan Patrol towing a trailer. The Commodore sustained damage to the front. The driver was not injured. NSW Fire and Rescue were needed to remove the Commodore from the roadway. The patrol left without providing details. Further attempts are being made to identify the Nissan driver. Police are appealing for witnesses or dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
No U-turn
At 7.10pm on January 8, a blue Mazda was seen by police travelling east on the Great Western Highway at Lawson. The car merged into the right turning lane at Staples Street before doing a U-turn in to Lawson shops contrary to visible signage advising 'No U-turn into car park'. Police approached the vehicle, advising the driver of the offence. She took a roadside breath test, which allegedly returned a positive result. The 28-year-old Bullaburra woman was arrested and taken to Katoomba Police Station where she returned a reading of 0.144. Her licence was suspended and she was charged with disobey no U-turn sign and mid range PCA. She will attend Katoomba Local Court on February 14.
Cars ransacked
Between 8.30pm on Wednesday January 12 and 8am Thursday January 13, two cars were ransacked along Oatley Streer, Katoomba. Unknown persons broke in and stole cash and a handbag. If you were in the area at the time and can assist, contact Katoomba Police on 4782 8199 or Crimestoppers.
Break-in Katoomba
Between 11.45pm on Tuesday January 11 and 7am Wednesday January 12, a business along Katoomba Street was broken into. The offender/s used force to gain entry before taking a cash drawer and a staff member's wallet. Call the station with information.
Speeding, drinking
About 11pm on Sunday January 23, a 26-year-old Kellyville driver was stopped by police when he was detected allegedly travelling above the speed limit on the highway at Faulconbridge.
While speaking to police, the driver indicated he had been drinking several hours earlier. He allegedly returned a reading of 0.076 at the police station and faces a number of infringements.
